Locality: From Madagascar

Sardonyx is a combination of two different varieties of chalcedony in distinct layers. The stone's main red and brown portions are sard, a variety of chalcedony, and the white and black bands are onyx. Due to sardonyx's color and banding, it is sometimes called carnelian onyx.
